Motivation Through Self-Improvement
Today’s message deals with motivation.
How do you motivate yourself or others to do something?
There are two types of motivation:
Extrinsic: punishments and rewards – a pay raise/decrease, a pat on the back, a kiss on the cheek from your spouse, or ‘thank you’, they come from somebody else to you with the intention of making you repeat an act
Intrinsic: the motivation from the sure joy of doing an act – going shopping, going to the movies, playing baseball with your kid
The way you create intrinsic motivation is by creating an environment where you or someone else can improve themselves which releases intrinsic motivation.
Use It or Lose It!
To use the concept of intrinsic motivation:
You must create an environment where you can improve yourself and experience the joy of improvement
or
You must create an environment where others have an opportunity to improve themselves and experience the joy of improvement
When to Use Intrinsic Motivation
When you want to motivate yourself or others
Discuss
How have you used intrinsic motivation to motivate yourself or others?
That’s the piece of advice for this week!
