How to Be Successful By Learning From Others
Today’s advice is about how to be successful by learning from others who have already done what you want to do.
So, a great way to be successful is to copy someone who is already successful.
No reason to reinvent the wheel.
There is one proviso, someone else’s method for success may not fit your situation, so you may have to modify how you are learning from others to make it work for you.
Success leaves clues. Successful people are not lucky; they figured a better way to do something.
What you need to do is study what they have done and then copy it with possible modification for your situation.
People who have already gone through what you are facing can save you time and pain with what they know via their experiences.
2 ways you can be learning from others is:
(1) You can study them from afar if they are not accessible (i.e. read about their work, watch videos of them etc.)
(2) You can reach out to them and have them mentor you or answer questions for you.
Use It or Lose It- Learning from Others
To emulate others success to become successful yourself:
Study what they have done to become successful and copy it (with modifications to your situation).
Reach out to them and ask them questions or possibly mentor you.
When to Use It:
When you are trying to accomplish something that someone else has already accomplished, which covers most things in life.

Upon opening your page, I immediately thought of the proverb “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, which then of course I needed to research. This exact phrase first appeared in a book titled Many Things in Few Words, by Charles Colton, published 1820. Other variations of this same concept go back to the Roman era.
Now it’s time to watch the movie……
Ten minutes (and two pretzels) later, my first thoughts went back to my time in the military. My first assignment was to a unit engaged in a combat situation. Going in as a total newbie, I knew absolutely nothing. But there were designated instructors to teach you during 4 months of rigorous training. Yep, going back to school, with both class room and simulator time. What you learned in the classroom, you practiced in the simulator. And as the course progressed over time, the situations became more and more intense. The instructors were our mentors – there were no stupid questions. They would work with you one-on-one if there was a particular situation you had difficulty with. Not everyone survived to the end. In our class of 12, two flunked out, and were reassigned.
At the end of my time “on the front lines”, I requested, and received, an assignment as an instructor so I could be a mentor and pass on what I knew from first-hand experience to the next generation.
