life lessons

The inspiration for this post of valuable life lessons came from an unlikely incident that occurred when Bri and I met for coffee the other day.

Let’s start with the photo below and take it from there…

Just to make sure we are all on the same page, I urge you to look a little closer (but not too close, we don’t want anyone going blind) at who is saying ‘hi’ to you in the middle of Bri’s ‘U’.

Your reaction is probably:

“LOL, that’s really funny” or “You’ve seen one case of plumber’s crack, you’ve seen them all, big deal”. You are probably also saying to yourself “Rick and Bri are so ridiculous” – guilty as charged.

Anyways, regardless of your initial reaction, you are definitely asking ‘Wtf does some dude with plumber’s crack have to do with self-improvement or life lessons?’.

Good question.

The answer to that very question is the impetus for today’s blog post where I will walk you through the 10 life lessons gleaned from our Starbuck’s meeting.

Here we go…

#1: Always Be Curious and Question Things
If you are asking yourself, did Bri get “photobumbed” or did Bri and I strategically conspire to snap that picture? Good for you, you are being curious. In life, it’s important to always be curious, never make ‘ass-umptions’ and always question things.

#2: Take Advantage of Opportunities That Come Your Way/Turn Bad Situations into Good Ones
Whether Bri got “photobumbed” or whether we took that picture strategically is neither here nor there, the lesson is that either way we took advantage of an opportunity to turn it into a blog post.

#3: Being Non-Judgmental
Just because that dude had a severe case of plumber’s crack does not make him a bad guy. We have no idea what he may be going through, so who are we to judge him? There may very well be a good reason he is suffering from plumber’s crack. Like perhaps the dude has been working 80 hours a week to support his 5 kids from 4 baby mamas and has been too busy to do laundry. Hence, he has no clean underwear, so he has no choice but to go commando and thus grace us with his plumber’s crack. Don’t be so quick to judge others for you have no idea what they may be going through.

#4: The Importance of Teamwork
If ‘hypothetically’ Bri and I took the picture on purpose, it would have taken teamwork to take a photo where the butt crack was in the middle of the U. No one is ever successful by themselves, teamwork is important!

#5: Always Take Responsibility
If however, Bri was indeed “photobumbed”, it would be very easy to point a finger and be pissed off at that dude for ruining her photo with his ass crack. But always remember, when you point a finger at someone, there are three pointing right back at you. In this case, I would have needed to admit that I could have done a better job of making sure there were no ass cracks looming in the background before I snapped the pic, shame on me.

#6 – Being Creative
I’ll give myself a little pat on the back here for being creative for turning some dude with plumber’s crack into a blog post about self-improvement. Being creative is a great way to stand out, it’s also fun and exciting.

#7: Laughter is Good for the Soul!
There is no question that Bri and I laughed our asses off. It’s important not to take life too seriously and to take time to laugh with friends every day. Life is too short not to!

#8: Turning It into a Learning Experience
Being that this is a self-improvement blog and seeing as how I am a curious dude, I wondered if there were any strategies that can be employed to prevent plumber’s crack. So, I decided to do some research on plumber’s crack – also proof that you can find anything on the internet. This is what I found in terms of reasons and solutions:

1. You are wearing pants that don’t fit –>  Get pants that fit
2. Your ass is flat  –>  Start doing some squats
3. You are going commando  –>  Wear underwear
4. The elastic on your underwear is broken  –>  Buy new underwear
5. Your shirt isn’t long enough  –>  Wear a long-tailed t-shirt
6. You are wearing skinny jeans  –>  Dudes shouldn’t be wearing skinny jeans in the first place. For girls, it’s fine.

#9: Self-Awareness is Important
You do not want to become the ‘butt’ of someone’s joke or ruin their dinner. So always try to be self-aware. So, if you have a propensity for plumber’s crack, you need to either use one of the strategies in #8 or please sit with your ass away from sight. It’s always good to practice self-awareness in all areas of your life.

#10: Keeping Some Things to Yourself
Sometimes it’s good to keep information to yourself to keep people guessing and to be mysterious. Did Bri get “photobumbed” or did we take that picture strategically? That is for us to know and for you to wonder about. However, we do encourage you to vote for what you think happened in the poll below…

Use it Or Lose It:

Seeing as how we just went through the list of life lessons, I am not going to recap them again.  The life lessons and how to utilize them are pretty straightforward

When To Use These 10 Life Lessons:

These can be used in your day to day life, not just when you witness plumber’s crack.

In Conclusion…

If I asked you if you knew what the Baader-Meinhof principle is, many of you would probably do one of these: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. ‘Butt’ I guarantee you have all experienced it at some point in your life. It’s the principle or phenomenon that occurs when the thing you have just heard about, seen or experienced starts popping up everywhere and you begin noticing it. For example, like that tricked out Kia you just bought or are considering buying – all of a sudden you start seeing them everywhere

The reason I am telling you this is that Prime Your Pump assumes no responsibility for any sudden increase in your observing of plumber’s crack in your everyday life after reading this entertaining and actionable blog post!

Thanks for reading, I hope you ‘cracked up’ and as always…PYMFP!

  1. Do you think that maybe he thoroughly enjoys the feeling of the breeze and purposefully had his crack out in the open? Hmmm….

  2. I really can relate to your second Life Lesson – #2: Take Advantage of Opportunities That Come Your Way

This paraphrases one of my “Rules of Life” – – “If an opportunity presents itself, don’t flip it the finger”. People have asked me ‘where did you come up with that’, so I tell them its a translation of a proverb from the old country.
